Question:
Why does an olive/tan coloured koi carp (chagoi or ochiba) darken considerably in the summer then lighten again in winter? Is it temperature? Is it melanin production due to UV exposure? or something else?

Replies:
I suspect it is melanin production in response to increased sunlight.
