Question -   I have been told that the amount of brown/black banding
on a wooly bear caterpillar is an indication of its age and want to know
if this is correct.  Thank you.

Although a lot of folklore supports this story, weather data that I have
seen do not.  It might be a nice project for someone, though, if they can
find wooly worm data!
