Can dogs smell when someone is afraid of them or is a foe to them?

They seem to be able to sense a lot more than one would expect...a few years back it was found that dogs could pick out of a series of test tubes which ones had cancerous cells in them...dogs are also used to warn epileptics hours before thay are going to have a seizure, well before any human including the epileptic knows...
