Question:
How come nature can't fix the hole in the ozone layer?
We are producing some ozone down here on Earth.
Replies:
As I understand it, once the human-made chemicals
we blasted into the atmosphere between the 60s and the 90s
get up into the atmosphere, they break into things that
stay up there for a long long time, destroying ozone the whole
time. It's probably true that if we stopped pumping CFCs and
such into the atmosphere that things would right themselves
within a hundred years or so. But we would need to stop NOW.
As far as the ozone we produce down here goes, well, that still
would get destroyed by the little chemical
"pac men" that are already up there.
Hmmm. maybe I shouldn't have said anything about PacMan, that
is really showing how old I am.... ;-)
