Question - I've looked everywhere for this, but without luck. What
is the solubility of the chemical propoxyphene (gr/ml/degrees C) in water?
----------------------------------------
Propoxyphene is the chemical name for a class of analgesics that includes
"Darvocet" and "Darvon-N".
The parent compound is a high molecular weight amine that is only very
slightly soluble in water -- probably less than 1 mg/100ml water. However,
being an amine it is VERY soluble in dilute acids. In the commercial
formulations it is present as an amine salt such as the hydrochloride. I am
quite sure there is no data on the temperature dependence of the solubility.
