Question -   how do the following characteristics differ between ferrous/non
ferrous metals.[simple terms]colour,strenth,density,corrosion resist,
electrical conductivity,magnetic properties,
I've looked endlessly for info but can't find it in plain writing
anywhere.

Unfortunately, I think your strategy may have to be search property you list
and find its value metal-by-metal. There are some good web-sites you can
find by searching the term: "periodic table" or " periodic table of the
elements" (start with: www.google.com).
