Question:
While taking a friends dog for a walk we came across some
tree with a strange growth on them. The trees themselves are not very
large and kind of teisted and knarly. Obviously some type of
evergreen. In various and many spots on the trees were what look like
growths of somekind but also look as if they could be secretions from
the trees. Very hard to describe but look like bursts of some kind in
a configuration that makes me think of a group of crystals growing but
the substance is yellowish and jello like. Firm to the gentle touch
but easily squished between the fingers. Only on the one kind of tree
in the area and very abundant on every tree. Like snowflakes, no 2 are
the same in size or shape while still holding to the crystaline
description. I've lived in British Columbia all my life and here, in
the central west kootenays, for more than 15 years and have never seen
anything like it. I wish I knew the type of tree it is on but I should
mention that it is not in, what would be considered around here to be,
the "wild". Beside the mouth of the Kootenay river in an area of a
campground/trailer park. Well travelled area. I plan to take some
pictures but didn't have a camera with me at the time.
