Question:
How can people know when the universe was created?
Replies:
They can't, of course.
We know that the universe is expanding, and we know how to run the
expansion back to a "point", this enables us to give a date to the "age"
of the universe. We do not, however, know very well how the expansion
went when the universe was very "small". Furthermore, quantum mechanics
makes the concept of a starting "point" very difficult.
Probably the best book for an overall survey is Steve Weinberg"s
"The First Three Minutes", a very enjoyable read.
